There are rumours now that Barack Obama may select Joseph Biden (D-Delaware) as a running mate in the upcoming election. Well, if that be the case, it will dim his chances to win slightly. Senator Biden does not have the name recognition of Hillary Clinton, but among those who pay attention to American politics, his name is not unknown. And one of the things he is known for is his arrogance. When I have seen him on C-Span, I've watched him smirk and sneer while questioning people in Congressional hearings. His questions are pointed and biased, making it clear that he has made up his mind about the answer before it is given. During the confirmation hearings for Justice Alito, I remember him purporting to question Alito's membership in some club or other, but never getting around to asking an actual question; he just made a lot of strange insinuations while pointing out what a great guy he himself was. I did not find out what it was he was trying to ask.
If Senator Biden becomes Obama's running mate, then it is likely that the enemies that Senator Biden has made will do everything in their power to insure an Obama/Biden defeat. The effort will not be as powerful or concentrated as an Obama/Clinton candidacy would attract, but it would give the Republicans a fighting chance. But I myself am not willing to take the chance of Joseph Biden winning the vice-presidency.
